Leaf Propagation And How To Do It

Leaf Propagation You can raise many different plants by using leaf propagation, by cutting off portions of the leaves as cuttings. This method is used with plants that do not produce a shoot freely. Some plants that can be propagated in this manner are the Begonia rex, Gloxinia, and the spider plant and African violet. There have been many methods of leaf cutting that have been adopted, but in any case a matured leaf has to be used. The leaf is prepared by cutting a notch just below the junction of the main vein. The leaf is laid with the bottom facing down on the top of a pan filled with sandy soil. Then the pan is covered with a piece of glass and put in a warm room or greenhouse, this is done in the spring or early summer time.

The new plants will then develop just above the notches; when they are big enough, they are detached and treated like a seedling plant.

African violets can be propagated by leaf cutting, the bases once cut are placed just below the compost. As previously discussed, there are many ways and many types of plants that can be raised from leaf cuttings, but which are not, because it is easier to obtain a cutting or seedling. Some other plants that can be raised from leaf cuttings are Coleus, Fucshia and Fittonia.

Increasing Your House Plant Community By Division

All plants that produce rhizomes (underground creepy stems), or have many offsets or crown, can be increased by division of these structures in separate containers. The process is best done during the spring or whenever new growth has begun. Before you do division, the compost must be prepared and you need the requisite number of pots and provide drainage material. The day before the plants are to be divided, the soil should be soaked with clean water, or the dried out soil will fall away from the roots when you try to divide the plants.

When everything has been readied, the plants will need to be removed from their flowerpots by holding upside down and tapping on the rim of the pot, gently on the edge of a corner or bench.

Next, the crocks are removed with a pointy stick and the plant gets separated into portions of required size. Some plants, it will be found, can be divided by lightly breaking the balls of soil into sections, still others will have to be separated by cutting through the rhizomes or crowns with a sharp knife.

In most cases, each separated portion will have more than one shoot and several healthy roots.

When it comes time to pot the new divisions, for instance African violet divisions, you need to place them in pots which are large enough to accommodate the roots without cramping them. Then you need to pack the compost firmly around the plant and water using a container fitted with a fine rose. The operation of plant division can be very disturbing to the plant, so caring for the roots is necessary until the roots penetrate the new compost. To encourage the plant to develop strong roots, they must be kept in a cool, shaded location and the leaves need to be sprayed and moistened 3-4 days per day. This can be done by either syringing them or sponging the leaves individually with clean water. After being treated this way for a couple of weeks, the plants should be returned to their normal positions.

Easy plants to propagate by division:

Asparagus, Billbergia, Clivia, Liriope, Spider plant and African violet.

What's the point in paying early for exam fees when you don't need to? A great deal of money is made because training colleges are charging all their exam fees up-front - and hoping either that you won't take them, or it will be a long time before you do. Many training companies will insist on pre-tests and with-hold subsequent exam entries from you until you've proven conclusively that you can pass - which makes an 'Exam Guarantee' frankly useless. Exams taken at VUE and Prometric centres are currently clocking in at an average of 112 pounds in the UK. ISO 9001 Quality Manual

A quality manual is the main, top-level document of a quality management system. It is similar to a constitution of a country or a manifesto of a party. This type of document establishes the policy level position of a government, party or in the case of a quality manual, a company. There are two published definitions of what a quality manual for an ISO 9001 quality management system should be:

ISO 10013, Guidelines for Developing Quality Manuals, element 4.2, gives detailed suggestions for creating a quality manual. It defines a quality manual, among other requirements, as a document that should "consist of, or refer to, the documented quality system procedures intended for planning and administration of activities which impact on quality" ISO 9001:2000, element 4.2.2 describes a quality manual as a document containing:

- your QMS scope and justified exclusions;

- the documented procedures or reference to them;

- relationships between the processes of your quality management system.

If we follow the requirement 4.2.2.a of ISO 9001:2000 Standard, we simply need our quality manual to clearly define the scope of our QMS, exclusions, if any; reference our procedures and define interactions between the processes.

Most companies I worked with, state the scope of QMS in a scope or introduction sections of their manuals, similar to these: "XYZ Corporation designs, develops, manufactures and sells industrial application flow meters" or "XYZ Corporation provides paper and plastic recycling services to municipalities in the Great Newtown area"

Since the scope defines our activities and we established our scope, we can define the processes that we need to achieve the results stated in the scope. Also, remember referencing corresponding procedures for those processes. The easiest way to do it, is to transform the standard from a list of requirements into your organization's commitment to satisfy those requirements. For example: Element 5.4.1 of ISO 9001:2000 requires that "Top management shall ensure that quality objectives, including those needed to meet requirements for product are established at relevant functions and levels with in the organization." our manual will state: "ABC Enterprises, LLC's top management ensure that quality objectives, including those needed to meet requirements for product are established at relevant functions and levels per the Quality Objective Matrix."

Looking at the paragraph above, you will notice that a reference to a specific procedure satisfies the second requirement for a quality manual. Continuing in a similar way, addressing all applicable elements of the standard and referencing corresponding procedures, we will develop a quality manual satisfying ISO 9001:2000 requirements.

Various methods are used to document process interactions. Some companies utilize Figure 1 in ISO 9001:2000 standard to document relations between main processes. Blend of the Figure 1 and references to your procedures, will define interactions between your processes. You can find additional models for process interactions on the Internet. After completion of your quality manual, think about other benefits a well written and professionally designed quality manual may bring you. Motorcycles And The Culture They Inspire 1868-2017

Motorcycles started out as steam engines strapped on to bicycles in 1868. Soon after the gas engine took its place in the 1900's there were Motorcycle shops and Dealers all over the World. For awhile, Motorcycle were simply used as transportation. In 1907, when Henry Fords, Ford Motor Company, released the Model-T at a price everyone could afford, the Motorcycle soon went from a necessity to a luxury item.

In the 1940's, the Motorcycle Culture really took off. An organization called the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) held races and events all over the United States of America. In 1947, held an event in Hollister California. This event was attended by many of the AMA Racing Teams and Motorcycle Clubs. This event marks the beginning of the separation of Motorcyclists which eventually led to the end of Motorcycling in the year 2017.

Newspapers, being what they where in 1947, got a hold of some pictures of Motorcyclists having fun at the event. The press decided to embellish the facts and transformed the story of the first large motorcycle rally into a torrid tale of Bikers taking over a small town! More negative news stories soon followed. Eventually Hollywood joined the Biker bashing by releasing movies that portrayed Motorcyclists as lawless and evil.

The American Motorcycle Association, trying to end the bad press, responded by basically saying that the Newspapers had lied and that it was only 1% of Motorcyclists that caused problems. This resulted in the first ripple in the Unity of the Motorcycle World and the Medias' hatred of Bikers.

Around the same time, the AMA began adding new requirements for motorcycles to be able to race in AMA sanctioned Races. Those whose motorcycles didn't meet the new AMA requirements started their own Race Leagues. Because the new Race Leagues/Clubs were not AMA sanctioned, they soon became known as Outlaw Race Leagues/Clubs. Although many Bikers raced in both the AMA and Outlaw Leagues, another great separation had begun.

By the late1960's, the separation of the Motorcycle Community was becoming more evident. There were now three basic groups. The American Motorcycle Association, Outlaw Clubs, and 1%er Clubs. All 1%ers were Outlaws, but not all Outlaws were considered 1%ers. Over the years, the AMA continued to grow. In addition to racing, they began to champion Motorcycle Rights and Safety. As time went on, others formed independent groups whose goals were similar to that of the AMA. Their inability or outright refusal to work together with the other groups resulted in a further separation of the Motorcycle Community and Culture.

In the 1970's, rifts began to grow between some of the Outlaw/1% Clubs. By the 1990's, the media had inflated stories about the conflicts into proportions that rivaled the tall tales of the old west. These tall tales invoked fear of the Outlaw/1% Clubs. Motorcycle Riders were lied to,. They were told to stay away from and fear the Outlaw/1% Clubs. The media began referring to Motorcycle Clubs as Motorcycle Gangs, a term meant to instill fear into the heart of the Public. Stories and rumors began surfacing, claiming these "Gangs" were ruthless and would kill or maim people for little or no reason at all.

By the early 21st Century, every minor conflict between Outlaw/1% Clubs was made into a book, made for TV movie, or docudrama. Titles like "Motorcycle Gang Wars In Your Back Yard" were common. Although real wars, conflicts, and suffering were occurring worldwide, the Corporate owned media chose to report fiction over fact. "The world is full of Kings and Queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams...Black Sabbath".

In 2009, a conflict between two rival Clubs was captured on Video at a "Biker Build Off" event. The coverage by the media and negative publicity was so overwhelming that in 2010, the United States Government passed a law banning all Outlaw/1% Clubs. In response, the Outlaw/1% Clubs put aside their differences and formed "Bikers United".

The Bikers fought back stating the law was unconstitutional and un-American. Even as late as 2010, workers still clung to the misguided belief that they had rights and lived in a free Nation. The Bikers fought hard and came very close to winning, but without the support of the Motorcycle Rights Groups, The AMA Clubs, and the Independent Riders, all of whom had been brainwashed into believing the Outlaw Clubs were criminal organizations, they were defeated.

Many of the Outlaw/1% Clubs tried to stay together. The Clubs went underground, but after many raids and constant Government harassment, they had all but disappeared. In 2013, in an effort to ensure that the Outlaw/1% Clubs never returned, the Government decided to outlaw all Motorcycle Clubs and organizations.

The AMA, it's clubs, and all of the Motorcycle Rights Organizations United in an effort to battle the Governments oppression. They tried to use many of the same tactics and strategies that the Outlaw/1% Clubs used. Unfortunately, the Government was much smarter and stronger this time around. They had learned many lessons in their fierce battles with the Outlaw/1% Clubs, and they used what they had learned against the united Clubs and Organizations. With no Outlaw/1% Clubs left to assist them and without the support of the Independent Riders, the United Clubs and Organizations were defeated.

In 2015, the Government passed a law that made it illegal to even look like an Outlaw on a Motorcycle. The Independent Riders banned together to try and fight the law, but by this time their numbers were few and there wasn't anyone left to show them how to fight for their rights. After a brief protest, they too were soundly defeated.

In 2017, What was now a "Global Government", in its infinite wisdom, decided that Motorcycles posed a danger to the public. They passed a law banning Motorcycle manufacture and use and destroyed all existing Motorcycles. This brought to an end, the History of Motorcycles. It would take until the year 2093 before anything even close to resembling a Motorcycle reappeared.

As a historian looking back at the History of Motorcycles and the Culture it created, it amazes me how powerful the Motorcycle Culture could have been had they not let every little thing separate them. Instead of embracing something they had in common and working together to protect it, the instead let their differences, the media, and the government divide them.

By the time the Bikers realized how much they were connected and needed each other, it was too late. Their numbers were certainly sufficient to achieve victory, but their failure to come together as Brothers and Sisters and work for the common good ultimately spelled their demise. Had they been victorious, it may have been enough to stop all of the oppression and tyranny that soon followed.

History is full of stories just like this one, over and over again. The ones who love and honor Freedom the most are taken down first and the rest fall like dominoes. Until the rebellion of 2057, we as a Global Society did not realize how important it was to put aside our differences. It may have taken awhile, but we finally figured it out...Just in time!

Selecting the Right Online College; What Questions Should you Ask

The number of colleges and universities offering online degree programs has more than tripled in the last twenty years. Never have there been nearly the number of choices that there are today.

While that's a good thing, it can be difficult for students to narrow down the choices to those best meeting their needs.

But, it doesn't have to be so tough if you spend a little time thinking and putting together a list of questions. The first question should be to yourself. What are you looking for in an online degree program? As you develop answers to that question you will be well on your way to choosing an online degree program.

Below are questions that all students should want answered. The questions you add to them will depend on your personal preferences, goals, and concerns.

First and most important is accreditation. If an online college or university is not accredited by an agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education it should be eliminated from consideration immediately.

Next is the question of majors? Which colleges offer the major in which you are interested? How strong are their programs? Do they offer concentrations or specialties of interest to you? What are the backgrounds of faculty? All are questions worth asking.

Unless finances are not a consideration for you, you will need to determine the cost of tuition, fees, and textbooks. And, you'll need information about the availability of financial aid (including scholarships and student loans) and tuition installment plans. Only then will you be able to see which colleges and universities are within your financial reach. Generally, if you are willing to borrow, most colleges will fall into that category.

The next most important factor for people with significant professional or college experience is the transfer credit policy of each college on their list. For what experiences is college credit awarded? How many transfer credits can be applied to a degree? Will your college credits be evaluated, in writing, prior to your enrollment? Remember that the more transfer credits you are granted, the shorter your path to a degree.

You also need to ask about student services. Start with financial aid counseling. Then find out if online tutoring is available. Will you be able to email professors if you have a question or problem? Will you be able to confer with classmates? Be sure to ask. And, find out about job placement and any other services important to you.

A bit of introspective thinking will help you identify your short and long term goals; both educational and professional. Then, you should have at least a few questions to add to those we have already listed. As your research yields answers to these questions, some colleges will be eliminated almost immediately, some will seem to merit further investigation, and the others will be revealed as a potentially great fit for you.

The necessary answers are easy to find once you first find the right questions. The good news is that you now have all the information you need to make a good college choice.

An Introduction To Skin Cancer Treatment

Here therefore is a brief outline of just some of the treatments which are typically used to treat skin cancer.

The precise treatment that you will receive is going to depend upon a number of different things which include your age and whether any cancer has spread to other parts of your body.

Your treatment may consist of surgery during which your surgeon may decide to remove the cancerous region itself together with some of the surrounding skin tissue. The amount of normal skin removed will be dependent upon the particular form of cancer found and how deep that cancer is. Usually an area of about one to two centimeters of surrounding skin will be removed.

Some types of skin cancer can be treated by freezing using a substance called liquid nitrogen or treated with drugs such as Imiquimod which is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the use on superficial basal cell carcinoma.

More extensive surgery may be necessary if a lymph node is found to contain cancer cells following a biopsy of a suspect area. This technique is designed to remove lymph nodes close to the cancer along with affected skin and is usually followed by radiotherapy.

A fairly recent development for skin cancer treatment is what is referred to as immunotherapy cancer vaccination although research into this particular form of treatment is still being undertaken and it is as yet not widely available. Chemotherapy may also be ordered if your skin cancer has spread to other areas.

There is no definitive form of prevention for skin cancer but there are a number of things which you can do to lessen your chance of developing the disease and the most important and generally ignored is to keep your skin covered if you are out in the sun.

Every one of us, regardless of the color or type of skin you have should make use of a sunscreen with a protection factor of not less than 15. It is also a good idea to wear protective clothing and remain out of the sun as much as you can, especially between 11am and 3pm when the sun's rays are at their strongest. It is not advisable to make use of sun beds and sunlamps as these also give off harmful rays.

Let me start by telling you about lysi. In Iceland where I grew up, this is what I had to drink. It is the fat from the liver of fish. Fortunately, today it is not necessary to drink this to get the benefit.

All I knew is that it was somehow beneficial to me and my health. As an adult, I developed an insatiable curiosity about natural health remedies. So, in addition to my other research, I decided to research the benefits of the fish fat.

Omega Fatty Acids are considered essential but polyunsaturated. So, the body needs them, but cannot produce them. We have to get them in the form of an ingestable.

The best place to get this is in fish such as salmon, tuna or sardines. But, because of the mercury content and other toxins, this needs to be in limited quantities. Two servings per week at most.

Other foods containing the omega fatty acids are soybeans, walnuts and flaxseed. Some things like cereals, orange juice and baby food are even manufactured with the fatty acids now.

Well, at least we do recognise how totake care of circulatory system and keep our heart whole . It would appear to me though, with such an important matter as my heart which is my lifeline, I personally want to know everything I can about how it runs, so I can give the greatest care possible. Yes, we all read health articles and thats where most of our general wisdom comes from. This is a extraordinary source of info, but there is one problem. It is generalized. In other words it applies to anybody, which of course makes sense, everyone has a heart.

That gets me to thinking. If I knew some more about how to look after my muscle tissue then I would be serving 2 purposes. That would mean every muscle in my system would benefit. So my own conclusion is, before I go any further with figuring out just what makes my very own individual heart tick, I require to learn more about the muscles. This is the first move, before I even look at the rest of the circulatory system.

I for one, am very much humiliated for not taking responsibility for my own heart and circulatory system health. I fear that maybe I have fallen into the trap of becoming health sluggish, meaning, that oh well if anything broke l'll just run to the Doctor and hell fix it. Not only in regards to the circulatory system ,but other arenas of my health as well. This type of mental attitude is partly what has result us into the Doctor shortfall crisis some countries are facing, as well as the multitude of money that is spent on healthcare.

Obviously, one of the issues to consider about depression is difficult emotions. Feeling unpleasant about oneself. And when you do consider it, you can see that we all operate from a box or paradigm about our own emotions. A very simple box or paradigm.

We all have emotions we like feeling. A normal list are things like Love

pleasure

contentment

Exuberance

exhilaration

hope

cheerfulness

These types of emotions we call "good feelings." We want to feel them as much as we can. Just so, there are many emotions we don't want to have or feel at all. See if some of these negative feelings would be on your list:

Sadness

Fear

Fear

hate

anxiety

Anxiety

Hopelessness

Emptiness

These feelings we call "bad emotions" and we try to avoid or stay away from them as much as we can. If we must feel them, we try to get away from them as fast as we can.

So what is this simple box we operate from around emotions? The box is that there are good emotions and bad emotions. Pretty obvious, right? We all seem to just know that when it comes to emotions there are good ones and bad ones, and the game in life is to feel good and not feel bad. This is so obvious that it goes unexamined. Of course this is the way you deal with emotions!

Given that, all of the emotions that go with depression we characterize as "bad" emotions, and we just "know" that our job is to try to avoid or get rid of these feelings at all costs. So you could say that we're stuck in a box about depression, which is that depression - and all the feelings that go with it - are bad. And we should resist all the feelings that go with this condition.

However, there is a large issue to this approach to depression. It starts with a very common mistake we make emotionally every day. This error has to do with resisting or trying not to feel bad emotions.

So try on the concept that you have an emotional "body," and that it has a job to do. The job of your emotional body is to feel all feelings. Good ones like inspiration and enthusiasm, and bad ones like sadness and anxiety. It's job is to feel ALL feelings, whether you like some or not. You can't stop your emotional body from feeling your feelings, that's what it does.

Notice that your emotional body is a lot like the organ of your skin. You can't stop your skin from feeling soft or rough sensations, cool or warm. Our skin feels whatever it comes in contact with. In exactly that way our emotional body feels all emotions. You can't just feel only the good feelings. When you try to suppress bad ones, you only cause your feelings to get stuck. Then these bad feelings tend to stick around much longer, because they are "stuck." So trying not to feel the difficult emotions that go with depression is actually a way to keep the depression around, keep it from passing through!

Therefore, to get out of the box of depression, one way is to discover more emotional intelligence so that you can process difficult feelings more efficiently and quickly so that they don't stick around. There's no room in this article to get into the details, but just a few minutes a day of not resisting but exploring difficult emotions can begin to provide some real depression help.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression For Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is often caused by a herniated or bulging disc. This is a condition where the inner gel portion of the disc has broken through the outer fibers. The soft gel like center of the disc is typically held in place by the fibrous outer bands of tissue. After the central portion of the disc has migrated through the outer fibers it can cause pain through inflammation or mechanical pressure on other structures resulting in lower back pain or leg pain. If left untreated it may become life altering.

Herniated or bulging discs may be caused by trauma, as well as ongoing movement or repetitive stress. As we age gradual breakdown of the disc fibers can also lead to a herniated or bulging disc. The symptoms of a herniated or bulging disc can vary depending on the location of the damage and the structures involved.

The symptoms of a herniated or bulging disc are often difficult to differentiate from other causes of lower back pain. If the pain is intense, radiates into the buttocks, legs and feet a herniated disc is often the cause. These symptoms are even more likely caused from a herniated disc if coughing or sneezing intensifies the pain. Numbness, tingling and muscle weakness in the legs are also commonly associated with spinal disc problems. If not treated quickly muscle weakness and wasting can become permanent.

Even though herniated or bulging discs in the low back are more common, a herniated or bulging disc in the neck may also cause pain. Neck pain can range from simple mechanical neck pain to pain into the shoulders, down the arms and into the hands and fingers. Neck pain can be intensified by certain movements or head positions as well.

Non-surgical spinal decompression is the latest technology developed to treat herniated and bulging discs. This technology gently created negative pressures inside the disc space to allow the bulging and herniated material to be drawn back into place so that the disc can heal. With the proliferation of beautiful towns in Southern California, its easy to see why so many people pulled up stakes and went west. It is easy to see why so many settlers and immigrants eventually settled down in sunny Pasadena. The city as we know it today was born, in essence, when Benjamin Wilson became the first Anglo settler in the region in 1841. Wilson would later become the mayor of Los Angeles and a California senator. But is Wilson was the seed, Dr. Daniel M. Berry as the water that would grow this City of Roses.

Dr. Daniel M. Berry had come to from Indiana searching for a miracle. An asthmatic, Berry had been looking for a suitable place to relocate his loyal group of similarly asthmatic patients. He would characterize his sojourn to the area by say, It was the best three nights of sleep in my life. Eager to keep the area a secret, he created the Southern California Orange Grove Association and began to sell shares for a massive 4,000 aces bid. In 1874, the Indiana Colony was born. Pasadena would soon follow.

Within a decade, the colonys warm reputation slowly drew settlers from the East. Soon, especially in the years prior to the Great Depression, Pasadena had become something of a fashionable winter resort for cold-weary Midwestern and Eastern families. This migration brought with it artists, actors, and scientists. The citys cultural wherewithal began to multiply. In 1917, the famous Pasadena Playhouse opened its doors. The Norton Simon Museum was founded in1922 and the Art Center of College and Design in 1930.

At one point, the Old Pasadena Historic District represented the focus of commerce and industry for the entire San Gabriel Valley. Today visitors and aficionados can marvel at historic facades along the rich and bustling Colorado Boulevard. Another remnant of Pasadenas rich history is the annual Tournament of Roses Parade. Many people, both personally and professionally use dual monitors when computing. This concept has been around since the 90s and is becoming more commonly used. There is; however, a new approach to this concept that could make some lives easier or at least less cluttered.

Samsung is known for their high quality and variety of monitors. They have recently added, to their already popular product line, a brand new concept - a dual monitor setup in one. This system consists of a 22-inch and 7-inch monitor that takes up the space of only one 22" unit. This new concept is to provide the same efficiency that two full sized monitors offer. The idea behind it is to use the 7-inch monitor for secondary applications like instant messaging, and the 22-inch monitor for your primary applications.

The primary monitor, 22-inch, has a resolution of 1680 x 1050, a response time of 5mx, and a contrast ration of 1000:1. If you know your monitors, you know this is an average monitor. The big difference with this monitor, from single units, is the fact that you must connect it with a USB port along with a DVI, HDMI, or VGA cable.

The smaller monitor, expectedly, has a much lower resolution and contrast ration along with a slower response time. (Res: 800 x 480, Con: 400:1, RT: 30ms) For a secondary monitor that supports secondary applications, these numbers are definitely sufficient for productivity.

The secondary monitor attaches nicely to the primary monitor, taking up much less real estate on your desk. It is attached via a pivotal arm that allows you to rotate the monitor to the perfect position. Additionally, the 7-inch monitor can be adjusted to either landscape or portrait layout, whichever you prefer.

The secondary 7-inch monitor can function as more than just an attachment to the 22-inch monitor. The smaller of the two can also be used as a standalone monitor or even a digital picture frame. This smaller monitor was also designed to be used as a secondary monitor for laptops - if desired.

The Syncmaster 2263DX not only offers a functional dual monitoring setup for small offices, but provides a solid platform for teleconferencing as well. There is a 3.0M webcam, 1.5W down firing speakers, and a microphone - all built right into the monitor itself. The secondary monitor, the 7-inch one, is perfect for the video aspect of a teleconference.

This unit sells for around $550. While this is a bit pricey compared to a standard 22-inch monitor, there is additional functionality and convenience in the SyncMaster 2263DX.

The bottom line is whether you are looking for space saver technology or budget friendly answers. If you have the space, purchasing two monitors is obviously the way to go. If your desk space is slim, you may just have to spend the extra cash. If you are into toys, and just need to have the latest and greatest, the Samsung SyncMaster 2263DX is a must have.

Debt Management offers a way out for debt laden UK

25 per cent of the UK adult population are saying their financially out of control with a major number, around one million three hundred thousand people, admitting their finances are entirely unmanageable, a report by the insurer AXA says.

The report suggests that over 3.7 million people are reported to be struggling to cope with mounting credit card bills and just over a million people have borrowed too much money and are now struggling to keep up their repayments.

500,000 people have been threatened with the bailiffs or repossession and consumer county court judgements (CCJs) has reached their highest level since the start of 2007's third quarter.

The public interest Company that manages the register of judgements on behalf of the Lord Chancellor has reported that within England and Wales County Court Judgements rose by 17.4 per cent year on year to 223,519, its highest level since the beginning of 2007 and from the second quarter of 2008 this is a 25 per cent increase.

Personal Insolvencies within England and Wales rose to just of twenty seven thousand in quarter 3 of 2008 which represents an 8.8 percent increase from just less that 25,000 in the previous quarter.

Bankruptcies have increase by 12 per cent from 15,500 to just over 17,000 in the second part of the year and personal individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs) are too up 3 per cent from the three months previous.

The credit crunch could be blamed for the increase in corporate and personal insolvency throughout 2008, however, its patently obvious that further failures are going to be compounded by the recession throughout 2009.

It was hoped that the SIVA, planned for release in early 2009 would help with some of the debt burden, however, the Insolvency Service has just abandoned the concept.

A simplified version of the IVA, for consumers with debts up to 75,000 and that would only require approval by a simple majority of creditors rather than the 75 per cent majority under normal IVAs, was due to be introduced in April 2009.

For the time being the options available to the equity challenged British public who are struggling with debt and are not wishing to go bankrupt is either seeking debt management advice or some form or individual insolvency arrangement.

Are we in the UK drowning in Debt? According to the insurer AXA, some 11.6 million people (25 per cent of the adult population) are said to be struggling financially with a significant number, around 1.3 million people, admitting their finances are entirely out of control.

The insurer goes on to say that over a million UK residents have borrowed too much credit and are now struggling to keep up their repayments, with less than 4 million struggling to manage their credit card bills.

This represents an increase of 24.8 per cent from the second quarter of 2008.

Individual insolvencies in England and Wales increased to 27,087 in the third quarter of 2008, up 8.8 per cent from 24,893 in the previous quarter.

17,341 people went bankrupt, which has shot up 12.1 per cent from 15,463 in the second quarter of the year, and 9,746 individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs), which is up 3.3 per cent from the three months before.

The sharp rise in corporate and individual insolvencies merely reflects the treacherous economic conditions people and businesses continue to face through this deteriorating recessionary backdrop; making an even sharper rise in both business and personal insolvencies look inevitable in the coming quarters of 2009.

For a construct that is less than 150 years old, the office has managed to become perhaps the single best qualifier for what we consider white-collar employment. Though a staunch capitalist would claim the office started with the ancient Roman officium most archaeological evidence suggests these ancient offices were a dignitary's administrative staff and collaborators and wee often mobile.

The modern office " in all its goldbricking glory " did not take shape until the beginning of the 1860s. As the Industrial Revolution was driving more and more people into the cities, and as companies grew is staff, it became necessary to group people into a common room. With thirty people gathered to pour their blood, sweat, and tears into the business at hand, it became essential to organize the space accordingly and get the people behind desks and in chairs.

Once in their chairs, it became a monumental task to keep their rear ends firmly planted. The thinking was a good office worker is one that stays put. The evolution of office chairs, therefore, is a never-ending quest to keep people working and at their desks. More padding, swivels, armrests " the obsession with ergonomics, in can be argued, had little to do with altruism and everything to with getting-rich-ism.

As anyone who has had the displeasure of sitting on a wooden chair for half an hour can attest to, sitting in a modern office chair is a dream come true. And as any company that has been sued for repetitive-strain injuries can attest " investing in a $300 chair makes great economic sense when faced with a multi-million dollar lawsuit. While the interest earned won't be much, your goal is to show them that if they save money to purchase the item, they will only have to pay the cost of the item plus tax, but they won't pay any interest.

When children understand how money works they'll (hopefully) be more inclined to use responsibility when making money decisions.

However, Boston ferns can shed leaves. If you dont want to clean up their leaves, consider another popular heirloom variety, the spider plant. These hardy plants come in a range of shades of green. I was taking a break from my normal online activities this morning and decided to visit a couple news sites just to see what was going on here in the US and around the world. Well just as I expected, I came across a few headlines talking about the high unemployment rate (over 7%) and reminding us that since the recession started job losses have been large and widespread across all major industries. I will be the first one to agree that the current situation is anything but rosy. I will also be the first one to point out that we maybe need to step out of our comfort zones.

What happens in tough times such as now, where everyone tightens their belts? Businesses make less money and are usually forced to reduce their workforce, sending waves of people into unemployment. But at the same time, they also take a good look at their business practices to see where they can save money and be more efficient. As a result, a leaner business is more productive and offers its production to its customers at a lower cost. And it so happens that in such an environment, customers are more attracted than ever to low prices.

Another overlooked aspect of competition is that which can exist within the workforce. The first image that comes to mind when the word competition is mentioned is businesses vying for the same customers, but it can also mean workers vying to get jobs or to keep them. Employees try and bring that little extra to the table to either cut costs or increase revenue, and the businesses' financial structures get more sound as a result. I even read that in one case employees are working for free in a bid to save the business.

When we hear the constant complaining about the unemployment rate here in the US, we might be tempted to think that our performance puts us as the worst performers of the developed countries. Yet a quick look around the world tells us that such is not the case. Actually, in the European Union, where many of the countries are also wealthy and belong to the group of the world's wealthiest nations, several countries have have rates that hovered around 8% for many years now, and sometimes even higher. This, and a look at economic history, suggests that our recent run at full employment (one of the definitions of which is unemployment below 5%) has come to en end and it's unreasonable to expect sustaining it over decades.

As a final point, I'd like to ask a question. Why is Michigan the hardest hit state in terms of unemployment rates (10%) while Wyoming enjoys the lowest unemployment rate in the country (3%)? The answer lies in the fundamental difference in how income is derived in those two states. Michigan is a manufacturing state, and most of the jobs come from factories and related businesses. Wyoming is a farming state. The farmers there are mostly self-employed and don't rely on someone else to give them a job. So maybe we should draw from that line of thinking and realize that no one is going to hand us our personal bailouts. Self-employment might just be the ticket, though.

Like I said earlier, times are not good. My main point is not that farming is the answer to our problem. It is that a self-employment mindset is. Wyoming has managed to keep their unemployment rates way below the national average because you cannot get fired if you work for yourself. That, the reach of a global economy, plus the power of the Internet combine to make the idea of a career change into something more personal look better than ever.

Concrete Polishing and High School

While I've heard of Concrete Polishing before, it wasn't something that I envisioned for our old home. You see, whenever I thought about it, I remembered my High School building. Its concrete floor was polished, but it didn't look at all special. Sure, it was shiny, but these were offset by the various cracks and quick patchworks that were visible. They could have done better.

But now, roughly a decade later, I seriously considered concrete polishing for our home. Until recently, the house had distasteful, artificial wooden tiles. I never liked them, and they were mostly broken anyway, so I decided to remove all the tiles. Lo and behold, save for the adhesive used to attach the tiles in the first place, the concrete below was undamaged (in my eyes, at least).

I definitely wanted to polish the concrete floor below. I remembered that the janitors back in High School didn't need to do a lot to maintain its shine, so it seemed ideal. However, I also did not want to end up with the cracked and patched mess that the school bulding had, so I poked around a Concrete Polishing website to ask for help.

It didn't take me long to find a contractor in the area who lurked in the forums, and after some discussion, he agreed to check out my house. As it turns out, the quality of the concrete to be polished contributes a great deal to the finish; fortunately, mine only needed minor tweaks. The contractor said that if the concrete turned out to be too wavy or needs a lot of patch work to be done, a new layer will be needed before polishing.

When I get the time, I'm going to revisit that school. I've had some fond memories there, and I would like to help them out in achieving the floor glamour that they weren't able to execute. I'll most likely recommend my contractor friend to them.

As for me, I am perfectly happy with how my floor turned out. Concrete Polishing was the best thing I've done for this house; and I've done a fair amount of DIY jobs myself.

The Best Way To Set Up A Tickler File

As part of my ongoing GTD Thirty Day Challenge, I wanted to talk about how you should set up a tickler file.

From what I can tell, David Allen is a big believer in the 43 folders tickler file. If you haven't seen a tickler file before, it is 12 folders for each month and 31 folders for each day. Right now it's January so I'd have my 31 folders behind January. As each day passes, I'd move the previous date behind February. Since today is the 21st for me. Folders for days 1-20 would now be behind the February tab.

How does this work? Let's say I got a bill today that I was due on February 3. Since it's important that I remember, I would put it in the February 3rd folder. When February 3 arrives, I would look in my tickler file and it reminds me to pay the bill.

If you asked me, I think using 43 folders for my tickler file is not the best way to set up a tickler file. First, it's hard to remember to check the tickler each day. You'll be asking yourself, "how do I remind myself to check the tickler file?" Secondly, it's very bulky and not very portable. Third, when you move the folders for each day to the next month you have to take items in that months folder and put them in the right day.

If you use GTD though, a tickler file is essential to set up because there are things in the future that you need to remember. The folder type of tickler is perfect if you have a lot of physical type items you use as reminders. For most people, their work doesn't create the kind of physical items that really justify a folder tickler file and I suggest setting up a tickler file differently to address the problems above.

How I Set Up My Tickler File

Step one is to create a plastic folder that I carry in my briefcase labelled "Waiting For" and all the things I need to remember on future dates go in there.

After that, I would create a folder in my email setup called "Yahoo Reminders". If you look at my folder setup in my other article called How To Set Up Your GTD email, you can see how I have this set up. I then filter all of my Yahoo reminders into this folder and they bypass my inbox.

The final component of my tickler file setup is Yahoo calendar. Anything I need to remember on a certain day gets entered as an all day event. An email reminder is associated with the event and a email goes out 2 days before I need to remember to do it. I also have it send me a text as a backup.

In the above example, the bill I got needed to be remembered on February 3rd. I enter the all day event on the third like "Pay very important bill" and by default it sends me an email reminder two days before it occurs. The actual physical bill goes into my "Waiting For" folder in my briefcase.

On February 1st, an email is sent ot me that reminds me I have to pay a bill on the third. The email bypasses my inbox and is filtered into my Yahoo reminder folder. As a backup, I get a text message too. Using text and email both gives me a backup in case I can't check my Yahoo reminders folder I then have a reminder sitting on my blackberry too. I review my reminders each day on my Blackberry and if I am at my computer, I review them too.

This setup is especially lightweight and extremely portable. It reminds me of everything so I do not have to remember to check. I also don't have to move stuff around in my tickler file. If you don't use email reminders, you really don't have any idea how valuable they can be. My suggestion is use them, even if you use the 43 folders as your tickler file. They will improve your GTD system 100%

That is my version of how to set up a tickler file for maximum effectiveness.

Look at what Tiger does in terms of how you live your life. Could you stand up to the level of excellence that Tiger requires of himself? If you raised your expectations, do you think you would be performing head and shoulders above your competition?

I've always been a huge fan of his because not only is he a consummate professional, he has such intense focus that you can see it on his face when you watch him on TV. I have also had the pleasure of standing just a few feet from him on more than one occasion and watching that focus in person.

Over and over again I heard the announcers at the tournament talking about how nobody would believe this if it was a movie. It would just be too much of a fantasy and the whoever wrote a screenplay that played out like this would be laughed out of a movie mogul's office. I don't know if I've ever seen a movie or a sporting event with this many interesting characters and twists and turns.

Tiger is larger than life and his life is richer, more nuanced, and more interesting than any movie script. And this weekend he was Rocky, but he wasn't fighting an opponent, he was doing what his dad had taught him. He was playing full out because that's the only way to do it.

There were so many amazing shots from this one tournament. You can probably find them all on Youtube. But it's not about the shots. It's about the measure of the man. During the tournament some of his fellow golfers, who should feel really ashamed of themselves right now, wondered out loud through their pettiness and jealousy how hurt Tiger really was.

Tiger on the other hand downplayed his injury to not take the focus off the Open while he played through incredible pain that would have made almost any other player call it quits, especially when he was so far back that it didn't look like he had any chance at all of winning.

And yet, Tiger not only didn't quit, he forced a playoff and played another 19 holes on Monday. And then he made the impossible inevitable by winning...again!

Watching him play in the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines for 4 days instead of the usual 3 was a treat and at the same time painful. My heart ached every time I saw him wince when he hit the ball or when his caddy pulled him up by the arm when he couldn't get up by himself or when the pain of taking another stroke had him almost doubled over in pain.

And I wondered how he could keep going, where did he find the inner strength to focus enough to pull it out day after day?

Ironically during the tournament there was a commercial running with audio of his dad talking about how Tiger would never meet anyone else as mentally tough as him in his entire life.

He certainly proved his dad right that weekend. I'm sorry I won't be seeing him play the rest of the summer, but I know he'll be back next year better than ever because striving for excellence is just his natural way of being.

All things that are important get prioritised, so let your friends and family know that this is a priority to you for perhaps ten hours a week for a set number of months. A contract illustrates your DETERMINATION to see this thing through. Having a written document about the positive direction of your life makes it harder to bottle out of it.

The real estate market, specifically the Baltimore condominiums market has not seen significant decline as rest of the county is dealing with housing bust. The average selling price has remained about the same. In 2008, the average selling price of condo was $280,000 about the same as selling prices of condo in July of 2007.

Luxury condo markets in greater Baltimore area also did not decline much, with recent listing in Georgetown area for $1,300,000 a $400 per square feet, a healthy price for a luxury condo. These days we all travel more on our yearly vacations, some more than others while the really adventurous like to travel as far away from where they live as they can. Whatever your travel interest is you will find a wealth of information online at numerous travel sites. It is now true that increasing numbers of people carry out all their travel arrangements using internet web sites. The main problem is the convenience of it all and the huge savings that can be found using the internet.

When last minute vacations come up, you can end up saving a lot of money and she's gotten some wonderful vacations for almost half the cost.

I'm not one for last minute travel although I suppose I could be if my schedule was more flexible but my job requires me to ask for vacation months in advance. There are other discounts to be made as well if you are prepared to book your vacation through a travel site, like discounts on car hire, excursions and tickets for events for example.

Knowing a little about what you want and information about the location you want to travel too can be useful so I still research as much of this as I can online before I pay my travel agent a visit. Perhaps it isn't fair because I know that it will be my travel agent that will hear my complaints if my vacation doesn't go according to plan.
